What are the differences between sports store or pharmacy and prescription orthotics?
Prescription orthotics are made by qualified Podiatrists to match the shape of your feet, your walking pattern and your specific needs.
They’re designed using professional assessment, gait analysis, and advanced orthotic technology to address the underlying cause of your pain or imbalance.
Sports store or pharmacy insoles are mass-produced in standard shapes and sizes. While they can provide short-term cushioning, they can’t correct alignment issues or deliver targeted, long-term relief.
In short: Pharmacy insoles are “one size fits most” while prescription orthotics are made just for you.
Can orthotics help with knee, hip and back pain?
Yes. Poor foot alignment can cause a chain reaction up your legs and spine.
Corrective orthotics can improve biomechanics, reducing stress on your knees, hips and lower back.
Can I claim orthotics through my private health insurance?
Most Australian private health funds cover our in-clinic prescription orthotics.
However, as our Orthotics Direct service is completed entirely online, you’ll need to check with your health fund to confirm if they cover online prescriptions.
We’ll provide all the required documentation, including item numbers and our registered Podiatrist provider numbers, so you have everything needed to make your claim.
Can I order orthotics online without visiting a clinic?
Yes. Our online assessment allows our podiatrists to assess your movement and prescribe orthotics without needing an in-person appointment. This makes it easy to access podiatrist-prescribed orthotics from home.
How do I order my orthotics online?
Complete a short online assessment, answer a few quick questions and upload a video of you walking. Our podiatrists assess your movement, foot structure and lifestyle before prescribing orthotics tailored to you. Your orthotics are then made and delivered directly to your door.

🎥 How to Record Your Walking Video
To get the perfect prescription, our podiatrists need to see how you walk. Don’t worry — it’s quick and easy! Watch the short video below for a simple guide on how to film your walking video at home.
1. Find a flat, clear space
A hallway, driveway or quiet footpath works well. Make sure the area is clear of obstacles.
2. Set up your phone/camera
Ask a friend or family member to film or place your phone on a stable surface about 3–4 metres away.
3. Walk naturally
Walk away from the camera for 5–6 steps, then turn and walk back towards it.
Repeat this 2–3 times at your normal walking pace.
4. Check your video
Make sure your feet and legs are clearly visible in the frame and the video isn’t shaky or blurry.
5. Upload with your assessment
Attach the video when completing your online assessment and you’re done!
